Oxidize Sterling Silver Naturally

I've been looking for a way to Oxidize sterling silver 1) inexpensively and 2) an easy process. Here is an article I found by Pat Greer I tried that has both. The first 2 pictures are before Oxidizing and the bottom 2 are after Oxidizing and I thought I would share it!

Boil an egg and peel it. While it's still hot, break the egg into pieces and put it into a tightly sealed container, along with the piece of sterling silver jewelry you want to oxidize.

The container can be glass, plastic or even a Ziploc bag (I've used them all). Just make sure that it is airtight.

After a short while (maybe 15-20 minutes), shake the container around a little to redistribute the jewelry. I've found that if you don't get the jewelry moving around, some of the silver may not oxidize very well.

This method of oxidizing sterling silver may take longer than using liver of sulfur, but it seems to work just as well - and you don't have to go outside in six feet of snow to do it!

If the egg gets cold before your sterling silver piece has oxidized as much as you'd like, remove the egg from the container and pop it into the microwave to heat it back up. Then place it back into the container and seal it up again.

I have used this process to oxidize ceramic beads dipped in silver also. When oxidizing ceramic beads dipped in silver, some of the pieces seemed to bubble if I laid them in the container. So what I do now is string them on cord with knots in between each bead to separate them. This seems to give better results.

Today I decided to make a pumpkin pie and I have to admit I am not much of a baker and I can prove it...

I bought a can of pumpkin pie mix and a can of carnation evaporated milk.

On the can of pumpkin pie it gave the directions, 2 large eggs beaten and mix with pie mix and carnation milk then poor in pie pan.

Preheat oven to 425 for 15 minutes then lower to 350...should take 50 to 60 minutes to cook

So yes here is where my non baking skills come in...

I preheated the oven for "15 minutes" at 425 then turned it down to 350 and then put the pie in the oven...

Needless to say my husband who is a baker (for real) is dying to tell someone this story...

Why would they want me to preheat for 15 minutes only to turn it down and why did I not understand this...duh

P.S. I can make a mean bowl of chip and dip!!

The 44th Scituate Art Festival

I grew up in Rhode Island and for as long as I can remember Columbus Day weekend was all about the Scituate Art Festival. People from all over come for the handmade crafts, sausage and pepper sandwiches and oh those dough boys.

I'm sad to say this will be my last year selling at the Scituate Art Festival. I have a friend Lisa that lives just before the entrance and I have always been fortunate enough to set up a table in her yard to sell my jewelry. Well Lisa and her family are selling their house (I wonder if I could have grandfather rights) LOL.

The Scituate Art Festival takes place every year during the Columbus Day long weekend - Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. - in Scituate, Rhode Island.

Scituate is a picturesque New England village nestled in the northwest corner of Rhode Island. Visitors stroll the beautiful Village Green, taking in some of the most unique varieties of art, craft, sculpture and antiques. Autumn provides the backdrop for this wonderful festival, bestowing crisp air and colorful foliage to energize the body and the spirit.

This annual event began in 1967 as a means of supporting the effort to restore the 1830 era former Congregational Church in the village of Scituate. Starting with just twelve local exhibitors that first year, this well-established and much-anticipated event now draws close to three hundred exhibitors from all over the United States and Canada. Proceeds from the festival are distributed to a variety of good causes within the town, including continued upkeep of the venerable old church

Experience the Scituate Art Festival just once and you'll be sure to return year after year, and I hope you have a chance to stop by and say hi to me!
